Gotta love those 60 mph West Texas wind gusts! That is not what a homeowner in Cotton Center, TX said when he noticed some of the shingles on his roof were lifting in the wind. He called Fortenberry Roofing who was able to send Caleb to take care of the small repair that same day. When Caleb arrived, the homeowner showed him where the lifted shingles were located and he began the repair. He used rubberized cement to tac down the shingles, and also checked the surrounding area for any other lifting shingles so he could tac them down as well.
After a tornado brought strong winds to the town of Cotton Center, TX, it had left damage on the property for Cotton Center ISD. Major repair work needed to be done on the roof and other areas of the property in order to get it back in proper shape for students and staff. Since Fortenberry Roofing had helped the school out with prior repairs and remodeling, the school administration reached out to them for help with making the necessary repairs for this extensive job as well.
The repair consisted of removing what was left of 1 layer of metal roofing and removing 4 additional layers of composite roofing with felt material to see the if the decking had been damaged in the storm as well. The crew then had to remove some decking to check the transverse beams of the roof for any internal damage. All damaged decking and transverse beams were removed and later replaced. 80 linier feet of rake fascia metal and wood, and an additional 170 sq. ft. of soffit was also removed and replaced. On the interior of the building, the repair crew needed to remove the carpeting on a stage (gym), and also removed the crown molding and acoustical ceiling tiles, finishing by installing new material in all areas. All the joists and rafters were checked for damage as well. Once the internal repairs were made, the crew for Fortenberry Roofing was able to reset transverse beams into pockets and re-support with a new support system. Once the transverse beams were properly in place and stable, the team began to lay the decking back on the roof, and of course replaced any decking if needed. New 26 gauge meatal was laid in order to cover the internal structure of the roof, completing the major repair.
There was a great deal of work that was performed on the buildings of Cotton Center ISD, and when it was all said and done the property was good as new and structurally secure and sound for the students and staff to enjoy their return to school.
