A resident in Lubbock, Texas contacted us with concerns about leaking in their master bedroom and home addition. Upon inspection, it was determined that the installation of a cant strip and a strip of modified Bitumen was necessary, along with the installation of counter flashing on the flat roof. Additionally, new shingles and ridge needed to be replaced.

Mr. Perrin contacted Fortenberry Roofing Co. regarding an active roof leak. Our Project Manager, Robert A., promptly responded and met with Mr. Perrin on-site to assess the issue. Upon inspection, Robert identified the source of the leak as a deteriorated 4-inch vent pipe boot located on the right-hand side of the chimney.
With Mr. Perrin's approval, Robert returned to perform the necessary repairs. He removed the damaged 4-inch lead boot and five surrounding shingles. A new 4-inch vent pipe flashing was installed, the shingles were replaced, and six pieces of step flashing were added to reinforce the area around the chimney. To complete the repair, all seams and flashing were properly sealed and painted to match the existing roofing materials, ensuring a seamless and watertight finish.

The drip edge metal was installed with roofing nails spaced 9 inches apart. Finally, the smooth strip was cut off the modified cap sheet, and a 12-inch strip was torched to the metal and existing roof.
